  • Do I need a license?
You need either a Maryland hunting license or a regulated shooting area license ($6.00). It is your responsibility to ensure you’re in compliance with MD law.
  • Are the birds wild?
Yes and No: the birds are not native to the farm, but we use bird distributors that raise birds in flight pens of standing crops. The birds evade predators and humans, creating a realistic experience. If you don’t know, pheasants are not native to the US and are from Asia. They were introduced to America and established a population in the late 1800s. Native pheasants have reduced in population in the last several years due to many factors, namely habitat and predators. Chukars are also Eurasian birds that were introduced on the West Coast and established a wild population.
  • Are their options for disabled or older hunters?
Yes! we can accommodate most individuals for either a field or tower hunt. Our paths are mowed but is a farm and we ask that you watch your step.
  • What about inclement weather?
Most hunts are a go no matter the weather, rain, snow, wind, or any other situation. We would love to give every group sunny skies and dry fields but it just doesn’t always work out. If weather is impeding the flight of the birds your hunt will most likely be a modified tower hunt. If it is possible with a hole in the schedule or within a few days of your hunt, a makeup MAY be scheduled but can’t be promised. In heavy rain or wet conditions, it is possible that your hunt will be turned into a tower hunt just to salvage your day and your birds. AT YOUR request we will set your birds for a field hunt but cannot guarantee their flight ability.
  • What if I’ve never done this before?
Not to worry! Upland hunting is fun, enjoyable, and a great way to network and walk and talk. You have experienced hunting guides and shooting instruction available to you on your hunt day.
  • Can I bring food and beverage?
You are welcome to, but we do serve beverages and light lunches (usually high-quality hot dogs, brats, or sausages) along with soda and water. We also have AFTER-hunt cocktails available. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL PRIOR TO OR DURING YOUR HUNT. IF THIS RULE IS VIOLATED, YOUR HUNT IS OVER IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT REFUND.
  • Do I have to take my birds?
Pheasant and Chukar a lot like chicken but tend to dry out when cooked. We have recipes available if you ask. If you do not want your birds we have numerous folks that will put them to good use and they will not go to waste.
  • Are my birds ready to eat when I take them home?
We clean your birds but you should still give them a once over before using especially for stray feathers or shot pellets. We recommend soaking your birds in salt water or vinegar water brine overnight. Biting into a pellet is no fun, check your birds thoroughly!
  • Do I need chaps or brush pants?
In short, you do not, the fields are well-kept. There are some areas near the woods edge or fence row where we may find a downed bird and run into briars and thickets. Our main recommendation is comfortable boots for walking, and clothes appropriate for the weather.
  • What is the max number of hunters for field hunts?
For safety reasons, 4 hunters are the max. If you have 5/6 hunters we can set birds in rounds and alternate hunters. Non-hunting party members who would like to walk along will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
  • What are hunt times?
Morning hunts are 9AM to 12PM and afternoon hunts are 1PM to 4PM . We ask you to arrive 1 hour before your hunt.
  • What gauge shotgun can I use?
12, 16, 20,28, or 410, we ask that you use 5 to 9 shot. We recommend 6 or 7.5 for chukar and 5 or 6 for pheasant, and Sporting clays 7.5,8, or 9. We recommend a modified or improved cylinder choke.
  • What about bringing my own dog?
You are welcome to bring your own dog. We just ask that you keep your dog under control and ensure that it does not interfere with another hunt and that it is well-mannered around other dogs and people.
  • Do I need to wear safety orange?
Yes! Safety is our number one priority keeping you visible in the sit field helps your guides and your hunters. Please come with a hat and vest or brightly colored hood or jacket. We have a limited selection available to borrow during your hunt.
